私がこのプロジェクトを手掛けようと思った理由。

こんばんわ。
SANUK-ENGLISH TVのプロデューサーとキャスターを務めます、SATOKOです。

私自身としては、とても自然な流れで来るべくして来たチャンスだと思っているのですが、
どうも、周りの方々からすると、「なんで？」「何がどうしてそうなったの？」と思われている方の方が大半のようです。

このUstreamから配信される香川県の生活情報を英語で配信する番組、
SANUK-ENGLISHは、私が12歳から持ってきた夢に、
この32年間生きてきた中で出会った様々な体験や経験、気づきが加わり、
今の形になっています。

番組は、テストランで11月12月は15分番組としています。
この15分間の間では、おそらく私がこの番組を手掛けるきっかけをお話する時間は・・・
おそらくないでしょう。

そこで、せっかくブログがあるので、こちらで少し記録として残しておこうかと思います。

お時間のある方は最後まで読んでいただけると幸いです。


私が12歳の時に大きな衝撃を受け、「これをやりたい」と思ったもの、
それは「映画作り」でした。
家に衛星放送がやってきて、時間さえゆるせば多くの映画を見ることができる環境ができました。
洋画にはまり、映画雑誌も中学生になってから2冊は必ず毎月買うようになり、
感想ノートまで書くようになっていました。
中学1年生の時点で見た映画は100本を超えていました。

一番大きな影響を受けたのは、「パーフェクト・ワールド」と「アンユージュアルサスペクツ」。
この２本を見て「ストーリーテラー」になりたいと思ったのです。
映像を使って物語を伝える人になりたい、と。

その後、リュック・ベッソン監督、ティム・バートン監督の作品の世界に
どっぷりはまる高校生時代に入っていきます。
あけてもくれても、英語と映画と美術のことばかり考えていました。
見よう見まねで映画の脚本も１本書いたことがあります。

・・・ところが、大阪芸大の映像学科、もしくは、大阪の映像専門学校へ進もうか・・・と
一旦は考えたのですが、当時はデジタルとアナログの転換期にあり、学生は映像フィルムを現像しなくてはならないという事実。
専門学校のオープンスクールで講師の方にこそっと聞いた現像代に顎がはずれました。
それでも、フィルムのカメラがたてる独特の「カタカタカタ」という音は、
魅力的で今でも忘れることができません。
きっと、親は、無理してでも学費をなんとかしてくれたと思います。でも、
私には・・・そうしてもらうことが出来なかった。
弟はどんな大学でも4年制は出ないといけないだろう。
ならば、そっちにお金をおいて置くべきだろう。と勝手に思ったのです。

そこで、その代わりに、４か月間だけ、アイルランドに語学留学をさせてください、
と親に頼んだのです。

「映像」
これが、最初のキーワードです。


そして、単身19歳でアイルランドへ渡ります。
4か月と約束していた滞在期間は、英語力が伸びているのを実感しているのに、今帰るともったいないから！と親に国際電話で三つ指をついてもう半年なんとか延長させてもらえないかと頼み込み、滞在期間を延ばした後、幸いにも仕事を見つけ、5年間過ごすことになります。

アイルランドの首都ダブリンには素敵なお店や、誰かに話したいストーリーを持った人々がたくさんいます。
これを、誰かに伝えたい。特に、日本人でダブリンに来た人、住んでいる人に伝えたい。
そう思うようになりました。
理由は簡単で、自分自身がダブリンの街を自由に動き回って、本当にビクビクせずに楽しめるようになるまでに、１．５年かかっています。
どこに行けば、何があるのか・・・そんな情報はどこでGETできるのか・・・
さっぱり分からなかったのです。
滞在期間が長くなり仕事も始め、ハウスメイトにもアイルランド人がいたこともあり、
地元の友人・知人が増えてきた頃がちょうど１．５年。
しかし、どこに行けばどんな面白いものがあって、どこに行けば何が手に入るのか・・・
そんな情報がもっと早く手に入っていたら、もっと早くアイルランド生活を楽しめたのに・・・・
と思ったのです。

そこで、日本語で書かれたダブリンのタウン情報誌、フリーペーパーを作ってみようか！！と
模索し始めました。
プロトタイプを作り始めたころでした・・・自分が母親になるのだと気付いたのは。

海外での妊娠出産に忙しくなり、このフリーペーパーはついに、日の目を見ることはありませんでした。
フリーペーパーが誕生する代わりに、娘が生まれて来てくれました。

「無料」「タウン情報」「非地元民向け」
これが2つ目のキーワード群です。


そうこうしているうちに、生まれた娘がパタパタ走り回ってベビーカーに乗るのを拒否するようになるほどの月日が経っていました。
ダブリンは一国の首都にしてはのんびりしていて過ごしやすい街ではありましたが、
アイルランドの地で「外国人」として母親をやっていくことに一抹の不安を覚えた私。
このままアイルランドに住んだとして、日本語（標準語）は話せるようになっても、
讃岐弁を話せない娘が育ってしまう（つまり、私の両親とコミュニケーションを上手くとれない）
可能性に疑問を抱きはじめました。
アメリカ人の夫も何度か訪れたことのある香川県の風土と物価（大笑）を大変気に入っていて、
「日本に帰ろう」ということになったのです。

香川県に帰って、自分で英会話の生徒さんを探しながら、最初にお仕事をさせてもらったのは、
東かがわ市の国際交流協会の非常勤事務員、という職でした。
県内でも非常に興味深いスタイルで日本語ボランティアの皆さんが熱心に活動されている
その協会。
私も研修を受け、日本語ボランティアとしても活動もさせていただきました。

日本語ボランティアとして地元に住んでいる外国の方々と接していく中で、あることに気が付いたのです。
「ダブリンに住み始めたころの私と同じ思いをしている人が多い」
どんな情報をどこで得たらいいのかわからない。
休みの日に何をしたらいいのかわからない。
困ったことがあったらどこに相談すればいいのかわからない。
日本語ボランティアは日本語を教えるだけではなく、彼らの相談に乗ることも多くありました。
「あ、あの頃の私が・・・ここにたくさんいる。私には彼らの気持ちが本当にわかる」そう思ったのです。

また、地元に住んでいる外国人の方々に対する理解の周りの低さにも、絶句したことが
一度となくありました。
「外国人だから」なんてひとくくりにしないで！！！
「中国人だから」なんてひとくくりにしないで！！！
「風習やルールを教えてあげることもしないで、文句ばかり言わないで！！！！！」
地元の人も悪気がなくて言っていることもあったのですが、それでも
あまりの言い方に地元の人の胸ぐらをつかみそうになることも、ありました。

「知らない」だけ。生活のルールを「知らない」だけで、そんなトラブルや誤解を招いている。
「知らない」のは彼らのせいでしょうか？
じゃぁ、「知らせない」のは「誰」なの？！

日本での飲酒は２０歳から、でも、国によっては18歳のところもあるし21歳のところもある。
「知らない」、「知るすべを持たない」たったそれだけの理由で、トラブルに巻き込まれることもある。

そんな中、協会が参加させてくれた研修で
「これは私が生涯かけて少しでも手掛けて行くべきテーマだ」と思うものに出会います。

「多文化共生」
様々な文化を持った人々が、お互いの文化を尊重しながら、理解しあいながら共に生きて行こう。という考え方。
これは日本全国多くの街で様々な取り組みがされています。
香川県であればアイパルには多くの資料が存在しています。

だけど・・・それを一般の日本人が耳にすることはない。
学ばなくてはならないのは、日本人側も外国人側も、両方であるはずなのです。

「多文化共生」
これが、3つ目のキーワード。


そして、今年2013年。
知人が動画教材やちょっとしたCMを手ごろな価格で作れる興味深い
スタジオ香川支店の立ち上げに関わりました。
スタジオがオープンしてから、見学に行かせてもらい、何が出来るのかを教えてもらって
「映像をやりたい」という気持ちがムクムクと湧き上がってきました。

そして、その知人も「何かできないかな？」と言っていた。

その瞬間に12歳からの夢を串として、いままでの体験、経験などが焼き鳥か団子みたいに
その串に刺さって・・・・

「香川の情報番組を英語で配信するUstream番組を作らせてもえませんか？！」

・・・・という一言へたどり着いたのです。

これが、4つ目のキーワード群
「技術」、「場所」


本来であれば、英語だけではなく、中国語版、韓国語版、タガログ語版、ポルトガル語版も作りたいところですが・・・私が英語しかできないので、しばらくは英語でいこうと思います。

私が愛する香川に縁あって住んでくれている外国の方々が、
この番組を通して、自然災害にあったとしても
「SANUK-ENGLISHで、あれはしちゃいけないって言うてたな！」と
安全な行動がとれたり、
香川に来たばっかりの外国の方が
「今週末はSANUK-ENGLISHで紹介していたところに遊びに行ってみようかな！」と
しっかり自分の時間を香川で満喫できる番組にしていきたいと思います。

また、この番組を通して、
「あ、こんなところが日本で生活している外国の人には難しいんだな！」という
新たな発見をしてもらえればこれに越したことはないと思うのです。

私には、私がたかだか19歳の小娘時代に、一人海外に渡って、
見ず知らずのアジア人に親切にしてくれた人たちに返さなくてはならない恩があります。
アイルランドにもどってその人一人ひとりに会うことはできない。
だけど、受けた恩を「別の誰かの役に少しでも立つ」という形で返していきたい。
そう思っているのです。

日本人が見ても、外国の方が見ても「ついつい見ちゃう15分番組」に育てていきたいと思っています。どうか、長い目でご支援いただきますようお願い申し上げます。



さて、最後になりましたが・・・
今回のこのプロジェクト。
私一人ではとてもとてもここまでたどり着くことができませんでした。

まず、このプロジェクトを私個人のものではなく、Pon&Con企画の１事業として
GOサインを出してくれて、告知Videoを仕上げてくれた仕事の相方、
萬里輝男にありがとう　ｍ（＿　＿）ｍ
徹夜をする私に最初は帰れと言っていたのに、途中から諦めたのか、覇気が伝わったのか、やりたいようにやらせてくれてありがとう。これからもよろしく。

そして、以前から存じ上げていましたが、このスタジオ設立を機会にやっとお目にかかることができました。
最初の私の軽い打診の時点から、前のめりに賛同してくださり、いろいろ動いてくれている、
素敵なマダム。パンダスタジオ香川の阿部純子さん。

これからもずっとお世話になります！！！

また、「みんな無償なんだけども・・・」という前置きにも関わらず、

Hair Make OWLの細川真衣さん、ヘア・メイクの打合せでも私のイマジネーションの枠を超えてアイディアを出してくれる同じくOWLの大石恵子さん。

これから、ちょっとずつ面白いものを小出しにしていきましょう！

The reason why I decided to produce this show.

Hi! I'm SATOKO, the producer and presenter of this show.

This show is only 15 minutes show, so I probably will never have chance to tell you
why I started this show.
So I will take advantage of handiness of "BLOG" and allow me to explain.

SANUKI-ENGLISH TV 
I am producing Ustream TV show about life and living in Kagawa for foreigners in Kagawa, Japan, in English.


Launching Nov.14th 2013


This was one of the biggest dream of mine.


I have had this dream since 12, but the form of it and structure has changed and grown.
Please allow me to tell a story of my dream and how I got the point "almost there".

My first encounter of my dream was 12.
I in some how hooked on to American Movies from age 12.

It's called "Filmmaking".
"Unusual suspects" and "A perfect world" left me a huge impression.
These films made me want to be a "storyteller in motion pictures".

"Motion Pictures" 
That is the first keyword.


Soon, I noticed my family can not afford me to study film at university.
Then, I decided to go to Ireland to study English, instead.

While I was in Dublin, Ireland,
I'd noticed so many great shops and interesting people are around in Dublin.
I wanted let a lots of people know about these shops and great human stories.
Especially for Japanese people in Dublin.
The reason was so simple....
It took me 1.5 years to start really enjoying Dublin.
Up till then, it was so hard for me to reach those fun information,
also I was not confident enough with my English to talk with total stranger.

So in order to let Japanese people know about Town Information,
I was working on "Free Paper" for Japanese people about Dublin.
However, when I was at working on it...... I found that I was going to be a mother!!
(Well, well, well..... I was so shocked that my free paper could never seen a day light...)


"FREE" "TOWN INFORMATION" "For non-locals" 
Those are the second key words.



A few years later, we decided to move back to Kagawa, Japan where is my hometown.
While I was trying to running my own English-classes, I started to work for
local international association.
I'd learned how to teach Japanese language as foreign language.
But the most important thing I learned was foreign people here in Kagawa are
struggling with the same matter as my first 1.5 years in Dublin.
"Not knowing where to go to get what".

Other thing I encounter and moved me was the way of thinking called
"Multicultural Symbiotic Societies".

Japan is a country still behind regarding to multicultural societies.
The government gives rights to foreigners to live in Japan,
but not so much support after giving them visa.
Where to get further language education?
Where to get medical attention in own language?
What number to call police?

I do not allow anyone in Kagawa to get stopped by a police and getting ticket,
just because they did not have a way to get information.


"Multicultural Symbiotic Societies"
That is the third key word.



Now, in 2013.
A friend of mine started working for a new very interesting studio.
You can make your own video show with professional equipments.
You can use it to make your online commercials, or Education video at this studio.

She needed someone to use the studio.

"Place & Equipments"
That is the last key word.

These 4 key words started mixing together in my head.


Now I can do a project that those keywords all together.
And this could help someone out there.

This show is not only for foreigners in Kagawa, but also for friends and family members of foreigners in Japan.
And not to mention for Japanese people to understand more that "GAIJIN" is nothing to afraid of.

With my experiences that...
 being a foreigner in Ireland,
fact that my husband is American and I've seen him struggle in everyday life, here and there,
and most importantly ME being a local who loves own hometown
and I am proud of where I come from,
...those all in one jar called SANUK-ENGLISH TV could provide something interesting.

Of course with all of your help of sending us suggestion.

That's how this TV show started.

I would like to make this show that viewers' opinion easily reflected on the show.
If it turn into the way as viewers make this show through me.
